Monica’s Story

For years, Kalunde lived with a growing goiter, an irregular enlargement of the thyroid. As it began to affect her health,
she sought help from multiple hospitals in Dar es Salaam, only to hear the same response: the surgery was too risky.

Kalunde’s sister, a former patient at DCMC, encouraged her to visit DCMC. After a thorough exam, DCMC’s surgeon, Dr. Yohana Masonda, MD, told Kalunde that he could remove the goiter. He agreed the surgery was not without risk, but he was confident that it could be successful. For Kalunde, it was more than successful – it was life-changing.

Today, she is goiter-free and praises DCMC’s medical team, saying, “I am so thankful to all the caring doctors. They have given me new life.”
